One reason people have such a difficult time eating healthy and staying on track with a wellness plan is lack of time or planning. As a busy business owner I'm always looking for ways to save time, plan meals and eat well while maintaining my active lifestyle. I started looking at various meal delivery services that offered vegan options, especially ones that were also gluten-free.
I found The Vegan Garden Meal Delivery Service, a small, family-owned business out of California. All of their products are vegan, non-GMO, preservative and pesticide free; they also offer some gluten-free options. The company was gracious enough to send me a variety of a la carte options ranging from fruit smoothies to dinners.
All selections arrived frozen, on dry ice, fully cooked and vacuum sealed, easily stored in your freezer until ready to use.
My daughter and I both tried different selections, as I'm unable to ingest gluten due to Celiac Disease. Our first selections from The Vegan Garden, I tried the Enchiladas de Colorado and my daughter decided to try the Giardino Pizza. Super easy to cook and both had good flavor and texture. The enchiladas were filled with black beans and corn and I served mine with brown rice and avocado on the side. My daughter said the pizza was super cheesy and had a good ratio of veggies. For desert we decided to split the Cocoa Mess cookie - it brought back memories of no-bake cookies...thumbs up!
Other selections we tried were the Choco-Mint Cookie, Banana Bars, Banana Nut Muffins, Blueberry Muffins, and the Lemon Poppy Scone. For my and my daughter's taste, these were meet with mixed reviews. We both crave full-flavored, moist and flaky baked goods. Unfortunately, for our palates, these products missed the mark a bit. I think added flavor and more moisture in the products would improve the taste and texture issues. We also had concerns about the nutritional facts on the package vs. what is listed on the website. If you need accurate information, I would suggest calling The Vegan Garden's Customer Service for verification.
Additionally, we received a selection of The Vegan Garden's Smoothies to try - Grand Slam, Beach Potato, Fruits & Greens and the Cocoa Power smoothie. All are sent frozen, in a squeeze-top, bottle-shaped package for easy pouring or drinking right from the package.
Each selection had a myriad of fruits and vegetables, plump with rich antioxidants and enzymes. A great way to start your morning, pre-workout energy boost or to use for a short-term juice cleanse.
Overall, I think that food delivery services are a good choice for those individuals that lead busy, hectic lives, don't want to concern themselves with portion size or meal prep or wish to stick to a strict meal plan. For me personally, I'm am still apt to meal plan, shop and prep my own food - unless - life becomes so hectic I can't make it to the store or spend enough time in my kitchen to prepare a healthy, nutritionally sound meal.
